About Master Sergeant James W. Johnson Jr.(JJ)
Master Sergeant James W. Johnson Jr.(JJ) retired from the Air Force as Detachment 1 Flight Chief and Combat Flight Engineer, 375th Operations Group, Detachment 1, Will Rogers International Airport, Oklahoma City, Okla. As Flight Chief, he mentored an elite group of 25 officers and enlisted personnel flying FAA CL-60 and King Air flight inspection aircraft. Additionally, he advised the commander on health, morale, and welfare issues relating to DoD’s only combat flight inspection program. Furthermore, he ensured combat readiness to support national mobility plans during the war, crises, contingencies and JCS exercises, including Antarctica flight sustainment operations. He also served as Course Developer and Lead Instructor of the Air Force’s only Prior Service Sister Service Enlistee Orientation Course. In January 2005, he transitioned to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, where he served as NCOIC of Hematology and Urinalysis Studies. In March 2010, Sergeant Johnson completed an unprecedented cross-train as a C-130 Flight Engineer and transferred to the 40th Airlift Squadron, Dyess AFB, TX. During this time, he served as Flight Chief. In December 2013, he moved to Little Rock, AFB and served as Instructor Flight Chief of the 50th Airlift Squadron. During his time as a Flight Engineer, Sergeant Johnson has logged over 1,100 flight hours, 553.8 served in combat, and 132.7 served in combat support while deploying frequently in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.
Upon retirement, he founded JJGRO Enterprises LLC, where he devoted countless hours to learning about Industrial Hemp and, in turn, assisting farmers across 28 states to do the same, simultaneously reaching out to fellow Veterans, helping them understand the Veteran Administration’s (VA’s) system, and helping them optimize their benefits. This led to several unique opportunities, including co-ownership of Active Duty RX™ and pivotal efforts within the Battle on The Homefront community, where his role in helping veterans has been expanded and continues to grow. No matter which, the Air Force Core Values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all you do will permanently be embedded in his DNA.
About Dr. Tristan Lai
Dr. Lai entered the United States Air Force after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in 1995. He initially entered as an aircraft maintenance officer, exhibiting exceptional leadership, and eventually was assigned as the maintenance supervisor of the 89th Aircraft Generation Squadron at Andrews, AFB Maryland. There, he was directly responsible for over 250 aircraft technicians in the daily maintenance and flightworthiness of the special air missions fleet, including but not limited to Air Force One and Air Force Two. However, Dr. Lai had a higher calling and eventually applied and was accepted to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2006. He was then transferred to San Antonio, TX, where he successfully completed his anesthesiology residency and additional fellowship training in Pain Medicine at UT Health. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Lai was reassigned to Joint Base San Antonio and named the Consultant for Pain Medicine to the Air Force Surgeon General. He was also the assistant chief of the Department of Pain Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center; Dr Lai retired from the US Air Force in 2019 after 24 years of honorable service.
Upon retirement, Dr. Lai has been an integral member of the San Antonio/Spring Branch area. He opened his solo practice in December 2021 in Spring Branch, Texas, and provides full-spectrum comprehensive pain management care.
